National Volunteer week is April 7th – April 13th, which means a lot to us at the American Red Cross because volunteers make up 90 percent of our workforce! Our volunteers are the true muscle behind the Red Cross. With endless compassion and dedication, Red Cross volunteers give us the valuable gift of their time as they help us achieve our mission day in and day out. That is why we wanted to highlight two volunteers from our Eastern Pennsylvania Region every day this Monday through Friday.
We thought it would be fitting to kick off National Volunteer Week here on the blog with a spotlight on a volunteer who works equally as hard toward the Red Cross Mission as he does to keep his fellow volunteers engaged and happy. Senior Volunteer Engagement Specialist, Andy Nagy nominated Nathaniel Kober, who has been a volunteer since December of 2018. Here’s what Andy had to say about Nathaniel:
“Nathaniel is new to the American Red Cross and we are so fortunate to have him! He helps out with the Services to the Armed Forces (SAF) program. He is an Eagle Scout and truly brings great leadership qualities to the SAF team. Nathaniel brought a great idea to us about sending out a birthday card to all of the SAF volunteers in the department. With the approval of the Program Manager, Nathaniel started to send them out last month. I think this will help keep morale up in the SAF department. He has also helped to review hours worked in the SAF department so we know who has approved hours and who is not active in the SAF department.
Nathaniel is also interested in starting not one, but two Red Cross Clubs at Wilson High School and Easton High School. He is working with the school administration to bring more clubs to the Lehigh-Valley Bucks region. He has been a great asset to the SAF department since becoming a volunteer with us. When asked about his work so far he said, “My favorite part about volunteering with the Red Cross is the people that I get to volunteer with.” Thank you Nathaniel!”
